Year Four Is the Real Test: What to Ask OT Light Suppliers in Delhi Before You Sign

Every surgical light works on day one.

That’s the trap, and it catches good procurement teams all the time. The install goes smoothly, the beam looks superb, everybody signs, the file closes. Nobody thinks about that light again until a spring arm starts drooping three years later and somebody has to dig out a phone number.

That call is where suppliers separate.

What actually goes wrong, and when

A drooping arm. A dead LED zone after a rough week on the mains. A brake bolt that no longer holds, so the dome creeps down through a long procedure until the surgeon has to break off and reposition it.

None of these are disasters on their own.

All of them stop a theatre if the fix takes a fortnight. Which is why the most useful question you can ask before buying isn’t on the datasheet at all: when this fails, who comes, from where, and how fast?

Trader, distributor, manufacturer — three different futures

A trader imports a finished unit and resells it. When it breaks they contact whoever supplied them, who may or may not still stock that model three years on.

A national distributor holds some inventory and covers a wide territory, which sounds reassuring until you learn the nearest engineer is responsible for four states.

A manufacturer with a local plant is a different proposition entirely. Spares exist because they were made there. Drawings exist because somebody drew them. The engineer exists because he works for the company that built your light.

Ventek India manufactures at M-155, Sector 3, Bawana Industrial Area, keeps its office at BH-14 East, Shalimar Bagh, and runs its own service engineers across NCR. Not a call centre routing tickets out to partners. Hospitals that compare OT light suppliers in Delhi on service terms rather than headline price notice this distinction pretty quickly.

The coverage question

Delhi is big and NCR is bigger, and anyone genuinely operating here can tell you what their response looks like in each part of it rather than saying “pan-India” and hoping you don’t press.

Ventek’s engineers work North and North-West Delhi through Rohini, Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh, Model Town, Ashok Vihar, Bawana and Narela. West and South-West across Janakpuri, Dwarka, Rajouri Garden, Uttam Nagar and Punjabi Bagh. Central and South through Karol Bagh, Saket, Green Park, Lajpat Nagar and Malviya Nagar. East Delhi across Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Mayur Vihar and Shahdara. Then outward into Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Sonipat.

Being built here rather than shipped here changes the timeline. Same week, not same month.

Five things to put in the email

Send these before the site visit. Read how they’re answered as carefully as what they say.

Where are spares for this model held — India or overseas? What’s your average response time for a service call in this part of Delhi? Is the engineer your employee or a third-party partner? What are the warranty terms for this specific series, in writing? And if this model is discontinued in six years, will parts still be available?

A manufacturer answers all five in one reply. A reseller answers two and offers to check on the rest.

What good long-term support looks like

Documentation supplied with the order for tender and audit purposes. Warranty stated per series rather than as a blanket sentence. Remote diagnostics on connected models, so the engineer knows the fault before he sets off instead of after he arrives. Spares held locally.

And one quiet indicator that beats all of them: how old is the oldest unit of theirs still in daily clinical use? Ventek’s has passed seventeen years. Nobody can invent that number.

One vendor or four

If you’re fitting out a complete theatre — lights, tables, pendants, modular systems — there’s a strong case for taking them all from the same plant under the same warranty.

Four vendors means four contracts, four response times, and a very tedious conversation every time a fault sits at the boundary between two systems. One point of contact isn’t just administratively neater. It closes the gap where problems tend to live.

Ventek’s OT tables, OT pendants and the VentekSafe modular smart OT come out of the same Bawana facility as the lights, handled by the same engineers. Over a decade that consolidation is worth real money — not in the purchase price, but in the hours nobody spends chasing three suppliers to agree whose part failed.

Ask now, not later

You have leverage before the purchase order closes. After that you’re just a customer with a problem and a warranty document nobody reads the same way twice.

Any competent operation theatre light manufacturer in Delhi will answer the year-four questions without flinching. The ones that get evasive are telling you something useful.

The install will go fine. It always does.

Buy for the years after it.
